PSA Foundation Begins Work with Sporting Chance

The PSA Foundation have partnered up with Sporting Chance to create additional support for PSA players.

Sporting Chance was founded by former Arsenal and England footballer Tony Adams in 2000 and is now the largest provider in the world of education and treatment for sporting professionals. Patrons of Sporting Chance include Adams’ former teammate Lee Dixon, Rugby League legend Tony Smith and Dame Kelly Holmes.

One of the core objectives of the PSA Foundation is to look out for the well-being of the players competing on the Pro Tour. You can find out more here: Player Well-being.

It’s difficult for any elite athlete to suddenly have to stop their season mid way through. Competitions you’ve trained for all year called off, training regimes ended abruptly and routines have to chance quickly. This has unfortunately been the case since the COVID-19 outbreak and the announcement of the Tour being suspended.

This kind of support has been long planned for, however, now was the time to make it available to the players.

The support from Sporting Chance will include a 24-hour emergency hotline where players are connected with trained counsellors. Following this is a series of one-to-one sessions with a trained therapist from their field of need.

Elite sport is a high pressure landscape, so it’s important to have these measures in place in cases of emergency.

Sporting Chance conduct excellent work in the field of sports mental health. We are excited to see what positive impact we can bring within the culture of elite squash.
